Child care is essential for many American families to be able to return to work. Many child care providers remain closed or are in danger of closing, parents are struggling to find child care arrangements that will allow them to work productively, and without a reliable, steady workforce, our country will not recover economically from the pandemic-related shutdown.
U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation surveys have found that half of parents who have not yet returned to work cite child care as a reason, and 16% of employers have seen employees leave for child care reasons.
Employees need long-term child care solutions and we can’t go back to “business as usual” after the pandemic. Productivity problems due to child care challenges caused U.S. employers to lose $12.7 billion annually before the pandemic.
Join Lynette Fraga, CEO of Child Care Aware of America, a national nonprofit that works to ensure all families have access to quality, affordable child care, to discuss the child care landscape, how it’s affecting employees, especially women, and strategies and resources to support employees’ child care and family needs.
