Executive compensation increasingly uses metrics focused on environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors. Dr. Hermann J. Stern, managing owner of the financial research company Obermatt, shares observations on the origins of ESG, how some companies apply it to assess/mitigate risk, and how it will be used in the coming years. Dr. Stern, who works primarily with Swiss and German companies, also gives his perspective on the push-back to ESG that is forming in the U.S.
