A Primer on Salary Survey Usage

Organizations consistently utilize market pricing as their primary method for determining the relative value of jobs. While there are various resources for measuring the market when it comes to total rewards, a solid understanding of salary surveys is foundational to accurately and consistently determine the value of work in your organization.


In this session, we will describe the most common sources of salary survey data and the factors to consider when choosing between various sources.


You’ll learn: 

  • How to accurately participate in surveys
  • Typical formats and statistics used in most surveys as well as how to manage and interpret the data you receive back
  • Special attention will also be placed on how to market price “hot jobs” or hybrid roles where market data may not be entirely clear

Principal Compensation Advisor, Lattice

Chad Atwell has over 25 years of experience in the field of Total Rewards as a practitioner, consultant and technologist. As Lattice’s Principal Compensation Advisor, he helps Lattice’s unique customers, mostly high-growth start-ups, design and deliver sustainable reward strategies for their changing workforce. Prior to joining Lattice, Chad was a Senior Manager with Deloitte's Human Capital Consulting practice. There he led a variety of projects focused on job architecture and compensation design for global companies in the Technology and Media industry.

Chad is a frequent teacher and speaker on Total Rewards topics, including touchpoints with future of work, performance, competencies/skills, and technology, and he has been a faculty member with WorldatWork for over 15 years. 

Chad is a life-long resident of Colorado where he enjoys too many outdoor activities to mention. He received both a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resources and Master of Science degree in Management from the University of Colorado.
