‘Something Bigger’ than Pay: What Really Spurs Employee Retention?
When asked what truly matters for retention, workforce respondents said: ;Pay (70%) and work/workplace flexibility (60%) are the primary factors.; ;Meaningful work (36%) emerges as the critical differentiator once pay and flexibility foundations are established.; Workers stated they are looking for organizations where: ;They feel “seen”;; ;They have a true purpose;; ;Their work makes a difference; and,; ;They have room to grow with the organization.; According to the report, the rewards components with the highest [workforce] satisfaction scores — compensation and benefits — are the weakest predictors of retention, whereas the rewards with the lowest satisfaction — career development and recognition — are the strongest.

The FTE Factor: Measuring and Utilizing Your True Workforce Size
The calculation: ;Total hours worked by FT employees: ;50 FT employees x 2,080 = 104,000 hours per year;; ;Total hours worked by PT employees: ;20 PT employees x 30 = 600 hours per week; ;600 hours per week x 52 weeks = 31,200 hours per year;; ;Calculate total FTEs: ;104,000 hours (FT) + 31,200 hours (PT) = 135,200 hours; ;135,200 hours / 2,080 hours = 65 FTEs;; Therefore, while the headcount is 70 employees, this organization has 65 FTEs.

New Research: WorldatWork’s 2023-24 Salary Budget Survey Based on its feedback, the WTW report found that more than two-thirds (70%) of the U.S. employers surveyed budgeted for pay raises to be either the same or higher in 2023 than 2022.
