‘No Tax on Tips’: The Current State at the State Level
California Senate Bill 17 , introduced Dec. 2, 2024; bill is pending in the Senate Revenue and Taxation Committee Eyed for tax years beginning on or after Jan. 1, 2026; tips also would be excluded from wages for the purpose of calculating unemployment insurance, meaning tipped workers would have smaller unemployment benefits if they lost their job.
