Ihrke also shared WTW data that showed organizations with high well-being scores are linked to better business outcomes, including: ;36% more return on equity; ;30% lower healthcare costs for the employer; ;19% more return on assets; ;5% more revenue per employee; To encourage employees to make preventive care a priority, Ihrke said, “Total rewards professionals should have a targeted communication strategy to provide education and have reminders on when an individual should see a physician, include options for both in-person and virtual appointments, and communicate anticipated costs.”

A Prescription for Rising Drug Costs
The Impact Cost increases for outpatient prescription drugs outpaced all other health benefit plan categories in 2025, rising 11.4% and eclipsing both overall inflation and the 7.9% jump in per-person costs for many health insurance plans, according to the 2025 Health Plan Cost Trend Survey from consulting firm Segal.

Per the proposed rule, the six non-exhaustive factors DOL would consider in the assessment of the economic realities of a working relationship include: Opportunity for profit or loss depending on managerial skill;Investments by the worker and the employer;Degree of permanence of the work relationship;Nature and degree of control;Extent to which the work performed is an integral part of the employer’s business;Skill and initiative; “Absent a change in the law, the department will continue to adhere to the economic reality test which is supported by decades of judicial decisions,” Looman said.
