Lump Sums for Employees at the Top of Their Scale: A Game Plan
According to WorldatWork’s 2024-2025 Salary Budget Survey , lump sums (a pay increase generally distributed in the form of a single cash payment, as opposed to a base salary bump) are often utilized to: ;Avoid increasing workers’ base pay due to tight budgets;; ;Give an employee more buying power; or, as in this case,; ;Compensate when an employee has reached or exceeded the maximum of their salary range but has earned a merit increase.; The WorldatWork survey found that, in 2023, exempt salaried employees were most likely to be offered a lump sum, with 50% of surveyed organizations providing this type of bonus to 10% of their workers.
