2024-2025 Salary Budget Survey , lump sums (a pay increase generally distributed in the form of a single cash payment, as opposed to a base salary bump) are often utilized to:
;Avoid increasing workers’ base pay due to tight budgets;;
;Give an employee more buying power; or, as in this case,;
;Compensate when an employee has reached or exceeded the maximum of their salary range but has earned a merit increase.;
