Anil Agarwal is a multifaceted HR executive. Anil has broad industry as well as consulting experience across industries and sectors. He’s intimately familiar with the workings of company boards and their compensation, risk, and audit committees, and has worked extensively with internal (C-suite, HR generalist, employees, etc.) and external (shareholders, regulators, etc.) constituents.
Anil joined J&J in June 2022 to lead the Total Rewards function for the new Planned Consumer Health Company.
Prior to J&J, Anil was with American Express (2010-2020), where he was responsible for all aspects of compensation as well as benefits strategy outside the USA. He partnered with business leaders to translate business priorities to reward strategy and was integrally involved in execution and administration of reward strategies. Anil joined the company as Vice President, Executive Compensation as it emerged from the financial crisis in 2010 and became Senior Vice President in 2015.
Earlier, Anil was responsible for modernizing compensation programs at The Home Depot. Anil worked with company leaders on compensation and performance management strategy development, implementation, and communication for all salaried associates, including executives and international associates.
From 2002-2006, Anil was an executive compensation consultant at Hewitt Associates, where he worked with several high-profile clients and had significant exposure to long-term incentive designs and governance. Anil began his career as a benefits analyst at The Todd Organization of the Carolinas before joining the Human Capital Services practice of Arthur Andersen in Atlanta. He was also a principal of OPT Capital.
Anil earned an MBA from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Bombay, India. He is certified as a CPA in North Carolina. Anil is certified as a CECP® Certified Executive Compensation Professional and faculty member of WorldatWork.
