Trump’s DOL Did What? The Overtime Rule Saga Takes Another Turn
How We Got to This Point To set up this story, note that the Biden DOL had issued a final rule in April 2024 that sought to: ;Significantly raise the minimum salary for exemption as an executive, administrative or professional (EAP) employee under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and, in doing so, expand access to overtime pay to an estimated 5 million American workers who had been classified as salaried (or exempt) by their employer.; ;Significantly increase the total annual compensation level for exemption as a “highly compensated employee” (HCE) under the FLSA.; In the months leading up to the election, the final rule was challenged in several lawsuits spanning multiple U.S. district courts, and on Nov. 15, 2024, the U.S.

Judge Blocks Trump’s DEI Orders; What Does This Mean for Employers?

Most organizations believe sharing pay ranges with employees will lead to: ;Significantly more questions about compensation from managers (70%);; ;More questions about compensation from employees (68%); and,; ;More pay negotiations (53%).; Also, concerns about managers’ ability to explain compensation programs and possible employee reactions are the most cited factors holding back pay program communication.

Report: Fewer Workers Got Bonuses in 2024, But Payments Were Higher
Some of that may be due to bonus tenure requirements in an industry that has added a number of new workers recently.; ;Food and beverage companies paid bonuses to 6.8% fewer employees in 2024 — following significant recent wage growth in that industry, some companies may have needed to decrease their bonus budgets after increasing base wages.; The Role of Bonuses in Overall Compensation Strategy Bonuses and other variable pay are an especially popular compensation strategy in performance-oriented jobs or industries particularly focused on retaining skilled labor — and they spike during periods of economic growth, said Ruth Thomas, a pay equity strategist at compensation software and data company Payscale.
