Exposing Pay: Policy Implications and Research Challenges
Yet questions remain as to the ethical basis of obligating employers to disclose such information when a reasonable case can be made that they are not responsible for broader social conventions underlying gender or race-based pay discrepancies ( Caulfield 2020), and when the release of such proprietary information or trade secrets may adversely affect their ability to compete effectively ( Estlund 2014; Gely and Bierman 2004).
